Castlegar is located in the Selkirk Mountains at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers in traditional Sinixt and Ktunaxa territories. Home of West Kootenay Regional Airport, the main campus of Selkirk College, and the Russian Doukhobor Discovery Center, Castlegar is embracing its roots while looking to the future.

Main industries here are industrial manufacturing, retail trade, and educational services. Thanks to the annual Sculpture Walk, the city is known as the Sculpture Capital of Canada.
